Lacquer Furniture Repair

Lacquer Furniture Repair Can Be As Tough As the Lacquer Itself

The use of lacquer to increase the look and to protect wood has been popular since as long ago as the 17th and 18th centuries. Lacquer is both extremely tough, durable, and makes the wood easy to clean and maintain. However, in time, most furniture which has been finished using a lacquer, will require some form of lacquer furniture repair.

With age, lacquer has a tendency to crack or craze, and it can darken or even appear cloudy. This is particularly prevalent if the lacquered item has been exposed to light, and especially sunlight. Heat in the form of central heating is also a major factor in causing lacquer to crack.

Lacquer Furniture Repair

The process to restore lacquer depends on how badly damaged the lacquer on the item has become. It is not uncommon for someone to misguidedly believe that a piece is so damaged that it needs stripping and varnishing. This is often not so. The item may simply have been subjected to years of dust, polish, and wax for example, and the build up of these products have caused the lacquer to appear damaged. However, as with any form of wood restoring process, it should be carried out by a professional.

Before we undertake any work on an item, one of our specialists will ascertain which of the following lacquer restoring processes is needed:

  • Lacquer Clean
  • Lacquer Revive
  • Lacquer Replacement
